Pedagogic Planning Workshop

Venue: Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden
Time: June 1-7, 2008

 

With the main aim at sharing ideas and principles in educational policies, pedagogical approaches among institutions in the RDViet network, the Project will organize an Education workshops for Vietnamese resource persons at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala from 1 to 7 June, 2008. 11 teachers from different institutions and universities around Vietnam have been selected to attend this workshop. more detail....

The 4th Scientific Meeting on Rural Changes
10-12 March, 2008

The meeting was held at Hue University Conference Hall at 3. Le Loi, Hue city, Vietnam on 10-12 March, 2008. The main theme of  this scientific meeting was on Rural Changes with specific attention on:

  • Non-agricultural diversification of rural livelihoods

  • Adaptation and risk management

Objectives for the meeting were:

  • To present and share information on current research on the theme of rural changes

  • To exchange ideas, experiences and research methodology on studies as well as research needs on the themes;

  • To present PhD and master research and research plans and discuss ideas for further support within VS-RDE research co-operation program (for details)

 

MSc/PhD training

Thesis Defense on the Master Program in Rural Development

From 5 to 7 March 2008, 10 MSc students of the training program 2006-2008 presented their presentation and defense of the thesis at a public seminars as the final requirement to complete the master program.  

When all students completed their defense seminars, the Evaluation Committee had a closed meeting and formally decided on acceptance of the thesis  and what revision work or additional work each student needed to do. 

All students were approved to pass. Among this, one student passed with distinction, four students passed with credit and the rest passed.

On 9th March, the project organized a closing ceremony of this MSc training program 2006-2008 at the conference hall of Heritage Hotel, Hue city, Vietnam. Many distinguished guests from Embassy of Sweden, Vietnam-Sweden Research Cooperation Program (PMU), Hue University and universities and institutes within the RDViet network participated this event.

Research

Invitation to VS-RDE-01 partners to submit research proposals

In 2008 the project will be able to give network members financial support to new research projects, including the new master graduates who defended their theses in March 2008. We invite you to submit applications, in particular within the three themes listed below, following the same process as last year. We want to encourage joint applications which support comparative case study material around a common theme and team work. Justification must be given for the comparisons to be made (for detail)

Training courses

Training course on application of quantitative methods in research on rural development
 

       With the main objective of improving the knowledge and skills for young researchers and lecturers of Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry on quantitative methods and their application in research on rural development, the project held a training course "Quantitative analysis in research on rural development" during 5-22 January, 2008 at HUAF. This course was facilitated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Ngoan, Dr. Le Dinh Phung and MSc Ho Thanh Ha and delivered in Vietnamese language. 45 young researchers from various faculties and departments of HUAF involved theoretical, practical sections and field activities.   

        The outputs of this course was 5 initial research ideas, one of which was supported by the project to further investigation as a pilot research.

       

 

Network

From April 26 to May 2, 2007 the steering committee of RDViet project had visited to the Royal University of Agriculture, Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the National University of  Laos, Vientiane, Lao PDR.  The main objectives of the meeting are to share information and experiences on rural development research and training, and to develop a project for cooperation research on rural development among countries.The meetings included a visiting the Universities, practicum fields and conducted a fieldtrip to visit a village where a project have been carried out.
There were 15 participants attend to the meeting at RUA and about 23 participants at NUOL.   See detail.
