Within the Vietnam-Sweden Bilateral Collaboration, Sida/SAREC has supported a project on Sustainable Rural Development in Viet Nam (RDViet) since 2004. The overall goal of this research and capacity building programme is to establish viable and effective research groups in rural development at the agricultural universities in Vietnam, capable of developing and maintaining high quality post graduate education and implementing critical research on rural change processes. One of three main components of this project has been joint research aimed at strengthening the capacity of planning, designing, implementing and communicating multi-disciplinary research that links natural and social sciences thereby contributing to the understanding of sustainable rural systems.
Over 60 pilot research projects have been carried out by researchers at the partner universities/institutions and results have been presented and discussed at the annual scientific meetings (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009). This publication of 13 papers presents a range of case studies focusing on Change, Policy assessment and Understanding Poverty that is of interest to rural development researchers in particular and generally in Vietnam. The Sida/SAREC-supported project has funded these pilot projects and also this publication. You can download the whole book or individual reports here.
